Weekend Gateway: Coorg, Karnatka

Hello Everyone,

Here is one more addition to my travel diaries.  This trip was planned at random, a night before so there was not much time to research. We decided to choose our sight seeing destinations after reaching there with the help of our hotel staff.

So our itinerary was as:

Stay @ Kushalnagar

Food @ Kushalnagar Food Court- Not a great variety and preparation. Its a below average Food Court outside Nisargadham.

Site Seeing @ Nisargadham-Nisargadhama is a forest resort in Coorg just 3kms from Kushalnagar towards Madikeri off the state highway. Nisargadhama is a 25 acre island formed by river Kaveri . It is connect through a hanging bridge. The water body there is worth visiting and of course the wildlife. I could only find few Deers around. I will rate this place average.

@Tibetan Monastery– The Tibetan Monastery  is located around 6 kms from Kushalnagar town towards Mysore.  It is the the second largest Tibetan settlement outside Tibet. It is beautiful and calm. I will suggest you to include this in your list while visiting Coorg.

@ Raja Ki Seat-The structure is small square in brick and mortar of four pillars bridged by arches, enhanced by beautiful surroundings. It has a lush green view of mountains. This place also has a Toy Train for children.

@ Dubare-Dubare is an elephant capturing and training camp of the Forest Department of Coorg. Dubare is located in between Kushalnagar and Siddapur. It alsooffers adventure activities like trekking, river rafting, fun fishing. It is said to be amazing to watch tamed elephants bath in the river. I personally liked the place and there are few food options available. I went for the river rafting for the first time and loved it

Abbey Falls– It is located 8 km from the Coorg and is located among the coffee plantations. The height of this waterfall was not much so personally I did not find it much exciting as I have seen better waterfalls than this.

Overall, Coorg is an average destination. Can be considered for spending weekend if there is not choice left. However as a personal experience, I did not find any thing great about the place as raved by people.
